Section 12:  Sequential Art

Along with a number of people I first discovered your work in Meat Haus, which shows not only an evolution in your style but also your writing abilities. Is illustration your main priority or do you have any intentions of doing a graphic novel or comic interiors? (v)

Sadly, my ability as a sequential storyteller is questionable, and I would rather design a picture or paint than anything else.

Are you interested in actually making a full-length comic book and not just covers?  (xii)

I would say I’m not a good cartoonist.  I don’t have that sensibility.  I put out a book called Process Recess last year which sort of hinted at this series I wanted to do called “Recess”, this haunted middle school and what goes on in that whole world.  When Process Recess Vol. 2 comes out hopefully that will be a series of pictures and mini-stories that will provide an interesting experience.

Speaking of scripts, how important is it for the artist to have a mastery of the art    of storytelling? Do you ever get a chance to contribute to plotting a story?  (ix)

I've never plotted a story, but many of my cover designs have made it into the interior art. As an illustrator, I'm not worried about panels and timing and panels -- my only concern is that single (image) that will hopefully draw a reader into the story.
