Fables 17

Prelim:  6.5" x 8.5", graphite on bond
Final Painting:  15" x 22", oil paint on Arches WC paper

The prelim for this piece started as a smaller 5.5" x 8.5" sketch, but grew as JJ decided to extend the bottom of the sketch.  The original sketch was then taped to a larger piece of paper so he could add her hand gripping her shorts.  Very nice prelim with lots of background detail that was not included in the final cover.  

To be honest, this cover was never one of my favorites...but when I saw the painting I was blown away.  On watercolor paper that was treated with acrylic to accept oil paint, it is much nicer than I expected, and I would love to see it in person.  Love the framing job, too...the "float" works wonderfully, and the frame helps to accentuate the gloomy mood of the piece.
