This cover is a fan favorite, and deservedly so.  This beautiful oil painting perfectly captures the mood of this melancholy issue.

James' comments, from Wizard magazine #171 (January, 2006):

"I had originally drawn a totally different sketch for this cover which was approved.  But then the image we see here just popped into my head, and I painted it without showing anyone for approval.  My wife was away for the month doing research in China--maybe the loneliness inspired me."
