Fables 74

 Prelim:  5.5" x 8.5", graphite on bond
Final Drawing:  20" x 30", charcoal and white chalk on Rives BFK

I really like the "Renaissance" feel to these covers.  James' comments from ProcessRecess:

"I was given a couple of plot points for this issue of Fables, but essentially I had free reign to invent the situation and characters in the scene.  The sketch required a bit of modification to accommodate the type design carried over from the previous cover.  The stairs provided a simple graphic counterpoint to the fruit and vegetable vendors.  The color on the lemons was applied on a color burn layer using pure yellow, and the rest of the image was colorized subtly with a variety of techniques. I decided to remove the yellow band on the bottom, since it didn't make sense to interrupt the staircase. Overall, I was very happy with how this cover turned out, since it veered closer to my personal work."
