I was not familiar with the Duke of Oil before seeing this cover...but it doesn't matter.  Great images simply WORK, regardless of familiarity with the subject matter. Note the initials "GW" on the Duke's boot...now what could that stand for?!?

James' comments, from Wizard magazine #171 (January, 2006):

"[The script's description of] the Duke of Oil conjured up images of dirty, rusty, petroleum-soaked metal and George W. Bush.  The combination, while not surprising, worked well in this case."
