This site is designed as an online art gallery where fans of James Jean can share any JJ art they have in their collection, and enjoy the art owned by others!  If you have any original art by James Jean that you wouldn't mind sharing, please send us an e-mail!  Also, if you haven't done so already, you may want to check out the Yahoo group "jjfans".

Fables Covers:

James' covers for Fables are widely regarded as some of his best and most important work to date.  The artist on all Fables covers with the exception of issue 11, James continues to impress readers with his ability and willingness to change media, style and technique while maintaining the overall look and feel of the series.

Batgirl Covers:

James' covers for Batgirl represent his first foray into the superhero field.  Generally speaking, Batgirl covers tend to be smaller (ranging from 9" x 12" to 11" x 17") and rely more heavily on Photoshop, especially for background elements.  All prelims seem to be 5.5" x 8.5", and most  pieces seem to be done exclusively in graphite.

Green Arrow Covers:

James' Green Arrow run began with issue 46.  Most (if not all) covers range in size from approx. 8" x 12" to 11" x 17".  All prelims are 5.5" x 8.5", graphite on bond unless noted.

Other Comic-related Work:

In addition to his work on Batgirl, Fables and Green Arrow, JJ has done a number of other covers, as well as some comic-related book covers, trading cards and poster art.

Illustration:

Aside from his work in the comics industry, James also does a lot of illustration work for various magazines, record labels, book publishers, etc.  On this site you can see a sampling of works for this diverse clientele.

Commissions:

Over the years, a number of fans have been lucky enough to get a commissioned piece directly from James!  Included in this gallery are a number of fantastic examples, ranging from simple pencil pieces, to colored pencil pieces, and even the occassional watercolor.  James doesn't do commissions all that often, so be sure to take advantage of the opportunity should it ever present itself!

Figure Drawing:

Since so much of his time is spent drawing for others, James likes to do figure studies whenever his hectic work schedule allows him the opportunity to get away for awhile and just draw for the sake of the art itself.  These drawings from various figure study sessions are a great opportunity to see James' raw talent in its truest form.
